how we measure

The Aisle Company is independent price & assortment data for San Francisco grocers. real prices, real simple — everything here is measured, not estimated, and normalized so you compare like with like.

What we collect

we read the public storefronts of San Franciscogrocers and record each product's name, brand, size, category, and current price. a product carried by more than one store is counted once, with its price range preserved.

Per-unit pricing

a sticker price can't tell you whether a 6-count carton beats an 18-count. so we parse every product's size and convert its price to a real per-unit figure — dollars per ounce, per fluid ounce, or per count (eggs read as per dozen). the cheapest sticker is often not the cheapest per unit.

Market structure

for each category we compute the share of the shelf each brand holds, and from those shares derive plain scores (0–100): brand competition, top-brand grip, variety of offers, and launch whitespace(room for a new, differentiated product). store-brand and unbranded share are reported separately.

Freshness & limits

figures update as we re-measure. we cover a set of San Franciscoindependent grocers, not the whole city — treat the numbers as a strong sample, not a census. sizes we can't parse are excluded from per-unit rankings.

Free & ungated

every page is free, crawlable, and citable. if you use these figures, a link back to The Aisle Company is appreciated.
