Reading the shelf…
The Epicurean Trader is a specialty independent running 6 Bay Area stores, small-format at about 2,935 sq ft each, indexing high on emerging & independent brands versus other Bay Area grocers.
Alalunga isn’t on The Epicurean Trader’s shelf yet in any of its 6 stores. The opening: 1 category where the shelf is already deep and the brand runs strong elsewhere.
Lead with Hake in Salsa Verde in Other Canned Seafood.
The Epicurean Trader stocks other canned seafood thinly, so a differentiated snack stands out instead of becoming the Nth option on a crowded shelf. It already earns space at 1 other Bay Area grocer.
The more differentiated opening is other canned seafood: The Epicurean Trader stocks only 5 there, so Alalunga Hake in Salsa Verde stands out rather than blending in.
The Epicurean Trader merchandises 1 of the 1 category the brand sells.
no strong clean/diet signal either way.
