Mooala at Rainbow Grocery Cooperative
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative is a member-owned co-op running 1 Bay Area store, large-format at about 36,996 sq ft each, indexing high on clean-organic versus other Bay Area grocers.
Mooala is a producer of USDA-organic, plant-based milk alternatives, offering a range of products including almond milk, banana milk, and oat milk.
It’s already on the shelf here, with 9 SKUs across 4 categories. The growth is depth and breadth: 3 categories to widen.
Lead with Bananamilk, Original in Banana Milk.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative stocks banana milk thinly, so a differentiated snack stands out instead of becoming the Nth option on a crowded shelf. It already earns space at 3 other Bay Area grocers.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative carries almond milk in real depth, 44 SKUs against a fleet median of 16, so a new entry there is the Nth option, and its per-unit price would likely sit near the top of a crowded shelf. The more differentiated opening is banana milk: Rainbow Grocery Cooperative stocks only 3 there, so Mooala Bananamilk, Original stands out rather than blending in. Lead with the banana milk, and position the almond milk as a finishing or gift item.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative merchandises 4 of the 5 categories the brand sells.
