Rainbow Grocery Cooperative is a member-owned co-op running 1 Bay Area store, large-format at about 36,996 sq ft each, indexing high on clean-organic versus other Bay Area grocers.
Les Moulins Mahjoub is a family-owned brand from Tunisia, known for its artisanal food products that include olive oils, condiments, olives, and spreads.
It’s already on the shelf here, with 4 SKUs across 3 categories. The growth is depth and breadth: 2 categories to widen and 2 new doors to enter.
Lead with Organic Harissa in Harissa Paste.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative stocks harissa paste thinly, so a differentiated snack stands out instead of becoming the Nth option on a crowded shelf. It already earns space at 1 other Bay Area grocer.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative carries olive oils in real depth, 116 SKUs against a fleet median of 31, so a new entry there is the Nth option, and its per-unit price would likely sit near the top of a crowded shelf. The more differentiated opening is harissa paste: Rainbow Grocery Cooperative stocks only 6 there, so Les Moulins Mahjoub Organic Harissa stands out rather than blending in. Lead with the harissa paste, and position the olive oils as a finishing or gift item.
Rainbow Grocery Cooperative merchandises 5 of the 5 categories the brand sells.
